Cialis Once A Day

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

In an unexpected move from the manufacturers of Cialis, ICOS Corporation and Eli Lilly have made the announcement that they are hoping to get permission from the EMEA in Europe and eventually the FDA in America for a once a day version of Cialis. The once a day version of Cialis will probably boost sales and add to the popularity of Cialis as an erectile dysfunction medication.

The present version of Cialis is popular because it can improve erectile function for as much as 36 hours and it comes in doses of 10 to 20mg. The active compound in Cialis is tadalafil and the new proposal seeks to allow the sale of Cialis in lower doses of between 2.5 to 5 mg. The idea is that regular erectile dysfunction drug users would be able to take a small daily dose of the drug whether they were planning on having sex that day or not and so they would be ready for sexual intercourse and able to perform whenever the opportunity presented itself.

Cialis once a day would be perfect for older men who are still sexually active and don’t want to have to plan ahead before each sexual encounter. The advantages for the Lilly ICOS consortium is that having a daily tablet will produce more cash revenues and the company is hopeful that provided the new version of Cialis is approved their revenues could grow by over 50%. It is likely that only a few men will go for the daily treatment but these men will be big yearly spenders and will really boost the Cialis sales.

Erectile dysfunction is big business with estimates of the number of impotence sufferers ranging from 150million to 200million worldwide and many companies were keen to get in on the act after the success of Viagra. Cialis is the second most popular erectile dysfunction drug in the world and is fast stealing market share from Viagra. Cialis was launched in 2003 and now generates nearly ¾ billion dollars in sales yearly.

The Cialis Once A Day is aimed to be for sale in the EU and America at the end of 2007 and it could increase sales of Cialis by a third over the following 3 years according to company estimates. Lilly ICOS is busy with clinical trials to look at the effect of the drug being administered each day in smaller doses. Cialis has also been shown to be effective in treating hypertension, prostate problems and pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and the results of the aforementioned clinical tests will be used to show the long term safety of Cialis use.

The Once a Day version of Cialis will heat up the battle for market share of the multi billion pound erectile dysfunction industry and differentiate it from rival drugs Viagra and Levitra.

Cialis Can Help Men With Spinal Cord Injuries (part 2)

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

The research program was designed with nearly 200 men with an average age of 38 . The were chosed at random as to whether they would get the placebo or the actual Cialis drug using a double blind, parallel and flexible dosage method. The men were drawn from 4 EU nations namely Germany, Italy, France and Spain and the program lasted for 3 months with questions and re-evaluation after each month. After the first month some of the patients who were recieving the Cialis 10milligrams had the dosages increased to Cialis 20milligrams depending on how they were reacting to it, and after the second month the process was repeated with the Cialis doses being reassessed again depending on how the men responded to questioning.

The men in the study obviously had different levels of spinal cord injury varying from complete spinal cord lesion to mild spinal lesion, including thoracic and lumbo  sacral lesions. The levels of erectile dysfunction varied greatly too from moderate to acute ED. Overall all the research showed that the Cialis had benefits for most of the patients in all the efficacy endpoints in comparison to the placebo results and there were no serious adverse effects with the Cialis. A few mild adverse effects like headaches (8.5% with Cialis and 4.5% with placebo), and urinary tract infection (7.7% with Cialis and  6.8% with placebo). A few men (2.8% with Cialis and 2.3% with placebo) stopped taking their pills due to reported adverse effects.

Erectile dysfunction is a serious medical condition and can be a indicator of other medical issues and can cause emotional stress and pyschological damage in men and their sexual partners. It is generally thought that as many as 200 million males suffer from erectile dysfunction in the world and the vast majority are simply due to other medical or physical problems such as heart diseases, prostate cancer treatment or diabetes. A few cases are to do with physcological stress and problems only, however experts reckon that both factors can play a part in the ED condition and failure to perform once can aggravate the problem the next time.

Cialis or tadalafil has been on sale in the United States for 2 and a half years and is considered by many doctors and users to be the best erectile function medication. In France it has beaten Viagra to become the best selling erectile dysfunction medicine in the nation. Cialis is a prescription drug and therefore a vist to a doctor is always required, especially as it can react dangerously causing sudden loss of blood pressure, with nitrates that are given to men who suffer from heart problems.

All PDE-5 inhibitors (of which Cialis is one) can have side effects like upset stomach, headaches and muscle ache. In very rare cases some men have reported priapism which is an erection that won’t go away. In this case if it continues for more than 4 hours a vist to a doctor is immediately essential to prevent penile injury. Cialis should not be taken with large amounts of alcohol.

Cialis is generally prescribed in a 10 milligram dose but can be given in lower doses and higher doses for more severe cases. Cialis is manufacturered by Lilly ICOS which was set up jointly by the ICOS Corporation with Eli Lilly to manufacture Cialis for the cure of impotence. ICOS and Lilly are 2 large pharmaceutical companies with interests in a number of pharma sectors.

Cialis Can Help Men With Spinal Cord Injuries (part 1)

Monday, November 10th, 2008

According to research presented at the Annual Congress of the European Association of Urology, Cialis (or tadafil as it is known scientifically) can be of significant help to men with spinal cord damage and who are suffering from erectile dyfunction as a result. Using a detailed and concise statistical method for measuring the improved erectile function of the participants the end result showed much better results than those participants who used the placebo. In fact over half of all the participants (54%) who used the Cialis said that they had erectile function by the finish of the treatment.
The data on the effectiveness of the Cialis was looked at by using a statistical method called the International Index of Erectile Function or IIEF. The men were asked questions related to a Sexual Encounter Profile or SEP. The questions asked were related to successful penetration and successful intercourse and of course improved erections. The participants were also asked about their tolerance to the Cialis and if they suffered from any adverse events.

With regard to being able to penetrate their partner, the Cialis users on average said that they were able to on just over 3 out of 4 attempts (75.4%) compared to less than half previously (43.6%).The men who were given the placebo pill, successful penetration occured in only 41.1% of the time compared to 44.9% previously. The fact that the second figure is higher is likely due to statistical variations and just tells us that the placebo had no effect on erectile function.

With regard to being able to have successful sexual intercourse the men who took the Cialis reported positive results in nearly half (47.6%) of all attempts this is statistically significant as the baseline figure was only 10.8%. The men who received the placebo had a 16.8% successful intercourse average rate compared 8.6% before taking the placebo. The placebo effect can often be higher than normal in tests regarding erectile dysfunction

The last area of data collection related to improved erections and in this case 84.6% of the men questioned said that felt that their erections were significantly improved after they had used the Cialis. The placebo patients reported a 19.5% improvement in erections. Overall the researchers noted that over 50% of the men with spinal cord damage were able to have normal erectile and sexual function when using the Cialis.
