Cialis, The Other ED Drug

Monday, December 29th, 2008

The erectile dysfunction drug called Cialis is the second most popular erectile dysfunction medicine in the world after Viagra. It has as its main ingredient a compound called tadalafil that works in exactly that same way as Viagra’s sildenafil by opening an dilating the blood vessels in the penile artery that supplies blood into the penis in order to maintain an erection.

Cialis is becoming increasingly popular, continually steals market share from Pfizer’s Viagra and its sales are considerably up from last year. The marketing men of Cialis may great play of the fact that Cialis works longer than Viagra as Cialis can be working for up to 36 hours after you take the pill. This has led to the people of France nicknaming the drug ‘Le Weekend Pill’ and in fact it has had more sucess there than anywhere else in the world with a market percentage that exceeds Viagra.

The men of Cialis are still not absolutely sure why they have had so much success with Cialis in France but they are definitely not complaining and they say that they are looking ahead to the expected launch of the Cialis Once A Day tablets that could prove to be another selling bonanza for them. Being the first erectile dysfunction drug on the market obviously gave Viagra a head start on the sales race but the signs are that Cialis catching up and market analysts say that it is not completely out of the question that one day Cialis will be the world’s No.1 erectile dysfunction drug and put Viagra in 2nd place.

Cialis comes in the form of a yellow pill and apart from the fact that it last for a longer time has no real differences to the Viagra effect. The great thing about the longer lasting duration is that men who suffer from erectile dysfunction say that they don’t have to plan the exact time of their sexual encounters over say a weekend period and they know that the drug will be effective for the whole time and not just for 4 hours like Viagra.

Sales of Cialis Rise

Thursday, December 18th, 2008

Sales of the erectile dysfunction drug Cialis continue to rise with the companies Eli Lilly and ICOS reporting that sales reached 233.2 million dollars globally in the 2nd quarter of this year. The figure is a clear 22% rise in sales comared to the same period last year.

Cialis is belongs to 2 companies, Eli Lilly and ICOS and they anounced that the profit that accompanied these sales was 75.8 million for the 2nd quarter which compares favourably to the last years 2nd quarter loss of 1.7 million dollars. While it is true that the global market ofr erectile dysfunction medication increased last year and so the sales of Cialis were expected to grow it appears that the Cialis gained more than the general increase and have managed to increase market share overall. The profits were increased substantially also due the fact that Eli Lilly and ICOS reduced spending on sales admin as well as in all areas of operational costs to the tune of 36 million dollars.

In America which still is the largest single market for erectile dysfunction drugs, the Cialis drug claimed a market share of over a quarter at 26.1% for the month of June that represents a rise of 2.8% when compared for June 2005. Lilly Icos as the joint venture is known is aggressively marketing the sales of its erectile dysfunction drug and has plans to introduce a new once a day version of the Cialis pill so that men who require to use ED medication often will be in a position to respond to sexual stimuli at all times rather than after they have taken the Cialis. At present the Once A Day version of Cialis is being looked at by the EMEA and the FDA in so that proper licencing and regulation can be obtained. Cialis is known as the Weekend Pill because its effects can last for 36 hours compared to 4 hours for the rivals Viagra and Levitra.

Cialis whose active ingredient is tadalafil has been also tested for use in patients with enlarged prostate glands and hypertension as well as pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). The share price of ICOS rose 5% to reach 21.36 dollars on the news of the profits and sales.

Cialis Once-A-Day Criticised

Sunday, December 7th, 2008

The erectile dysfunction drug world is all talking about the new proposal of Lilly Icos to sell their impotence medicine as a once a day tablet that would keep erectile function at optimum levels all the time and would not require you to take a pill just before sex. Lilly Icos believe that if men are encouraged to take the Cialis drug daily in a smaller dose they will eventually reap more profits and could end up overtaking the world famous erectile dysfunction drug Viagra.

However the idea of the once a day drug is coming under serious criticism already as some medical professionals are arguing that the erectile dysfunction drugs are being reduced to lifestyle drugs and are not being used as they should be as serious medicines for people who can’t sustain an erection and therefore have a serious medical problem. The concern is that many men are using these medicines not because they can’t get an erection but because they just want to improve their sexual prowess and they want to keep going in bed longer.

The critics also argue that the adverts for the Cialis drug as well as the other ED medicines are targeting a younger crowd and are promoting impotence as a sexual stamina issue instead of as a medical condition. In fact Cialis Viagra and Levitra have all responded to the medical establishments concerns about these adverts and have already changed the format of the ads to a more serious nature however Cialis still uses an advertisement in which a man and a woman are presented in a risque and amusing situation.

One group called Commercial Alert based in the United States is calling for a complete ban on all forms of ED adverts and says that it should be up to doctors to decide whether people should be given any erectile dysfunction medication.

Eli Lilly were quick to deny that this new Once-A-Day version of Cialis is just a lifestyle gimmick and a company spokesman explained that the new version of Cialis was just a futher extension and more convention option of what Cialis is already and was perfect for men who wanted to have sex on a regular basis and were suffering from the serious medical condition of impotence.

A number of doctors who were asked about what they thought about Cialis Once-A-Day said that they doubted that there were that many men out there who really needed to take the drug everyday but that it would be useful for impotent men who wanted to have unplanned sex spontaneously without having to go looking for their Cialis when the opportunity arose.
